Battery Voltage Explained
A tool with a higher voltage than another is a bit like choosing an engine in a car, the higher voltage will generally mean higher power & performance. As with cars though a bigger engine does not always translate to better performance so it is important to compare the specifications of tools at different voltages between different manufacturers.
Battery AH Explained
The best way to describe battery amp hour is that this is effectively the size of your fuel tank, the more amp hours your battery has then the longer the battery will last between charges. More amp hours does not increase the power of a given tool.
DeWalt Flexvolt
DeWalt 54v Flexvolt is the new DeWalt dual voltage system. A 54v Tool can only use 54v batteries, however your new DeWalt 54v Flexvolt battery is fully compatible with all DeWalt 18v Li-ion Power Tools as it is capable of stepping into 18v mode for this purpose.
So upgrading to 54v means you can still make use of your 18v power tool range. 54v batteries are currently available in:
6ah (18v mode) / 2ah (54v mode)
9ah (18v mode) / 3ah (54v mode)
12ah (18v mode) / 4ah (54v mode)
The DeWalt Flexvolt system opens the door to types of tool becoming available in cordless that would never have been considered before such as Table Saws.

Q : Hi I have a DeWalt chainsaw DCM575N Will this charger suit , also I need 2 battery's could you advise the correct code for the battery's needed Thanks Teresa
A : Hi Teresa, yes - the DCM575 is a Flexvolt machine (the N on the end just means it doesn't come with batteries) so will be compatible with any Flexvolt batteries and chargers, including the DCB118 here. When it comes to the batteries, the only difference between them is the capacity, measured in ampere-hours (Ah) - the higher the Ah rating, the longer the runtime you will get out of it. To see all the batteries and chargers that are compatible with your chainsaw, you can go to the product page on our website (product ID 21008856) and they are all shown in the "Accessories for this Product" section
