Handy THPLS Hand Push Lawn Sweeper
Why use a Lawn Raker or Scarifier?
When you cut your lawn there is a gradual build up of dead grass also known as thatch - which congregates just on top of the soil below the grass tips. This will impede drainage and stop air reaching the grass.
Moss builds up on damp or lawns in the shade and will again affect the grass in a similar way.
Lawn Scarifiers
A Scarifier will help to remove moss & thatch but will also cut through the surface of the lawn. This has a number of benefits such as aerating the underlying soil & splitting the grass into lots of separate plants thus thickening the turf and encouraging a healthy lawn.
Use a Scarifier once a year either in autumn or late spring when the grass is growing well.
Lawn Rakers
A Lawn Raker will remove moss, thatch & leaves. This will help to keep a nice tidy lawn whilst encouraging growth as old dead material is removed which would otherwise stifle this growth.
Use a Lawn Raker every 1 - 2 months while grass is growing well.

I have a large garden backing on to a mini forest of deciduous trees. We moved here last January so this is my first autumn. My first rake session took well over an hour and even although I'm pretty fit at knocking on 73 years I did not feel raking was a long term solution as it needed doing every 2-3 days. I ordered an agri-fab sweeper at 170 pounds but they were out of stock for a while and offered me a Handy for 150 pounds. I looked on line and prices varied enormously. Tooled up were the cheapest at 99.95 pounds. My local Robbie's charge 130 pounds. It works best on the lawn when there is a layer of leaves covering the grass fairly evenly. It picks up about 90% plus and is very quick taking about 20 minutes to sweep 35x20yards. I have various shrubs and bushes in the borders and blew these on to the lawn with a vac intending then going over the long piles of leaves with the sweeper. This was not that easy and I felt it was straining the machine. I've decided to sweep the lawn using the sweeper and use a plastic lawn rake to remove accumulations of leaves elsewhere. Verdict :- a good buy works well on evenly covered grass but not on long piles.
