Battery AH Explained
The best way to describe battery amp hour is that this is effectively the size of your fuel tank, the more amp hours your battery has then the longer the battery will last between charges. More amp hours does not increase the power of a given tool.
Battery Voltage Explained
A tool with a higher voltage than another is a bit like choosing an engine in a car, the higher voltage will generally mean higher power & performance. As with cars though a bigger engine does not always translate to better performance so it is important to compare the specifications of tools at different voltages between different manufacturers.
Chainsaws
Always make sure your oil is topped up & your chain is tensioned correctly. This will ensure your chain life is extended & more importantly is operating safely.
Remember Chainsaws are dangerous. Do not attempt to use one if you have not fully read the instructions, are confident in the correct use & have adequate safety equipment & clothing.
Bosch PowerForAll
The Bosch PowerForAll Tool range is a range of tools you can buy knowing that batteries are compatible with all tools in the range providing they are of the same voltage. eg 18v fits 18v, 12v (10.8v) fits 12v (10.8v) etc. Please also note that 10.8v is compatible with 12v & vice versa as it is just a name change. Indego Lawnmowers also use the PowerForAll 18v battery but require a cover plate to be removed if changing.
PowerForAll has many advantages not least the fact that once you have a tool with a few batteries then there is no need to buy the more expensive versions with battery & charger, you can just go ahead & buy the much cheaper no battery versions!
So remember PowerForAll signifies complete battery compatibility throughout the range. There is however, one caveat to this, some of the very first older chargers will not charge the very latest batteries & a battery charger upgrade will be required if you have a first generation charger. All batteries fit all tools however.
As of 2021 Bosch has licensed PowerForAll to other manufacturers whereby batteries between these manufacturers will be interchangeable.
Important
You cannot use Bosch Pro (Blue) batteries in either 12v or 18v DIY (Green) products.

Overall very satisfied. Advertised with a free bottle of chainsaw oil however, this was not supplied. When I queried this I was advised that the offer didn’t apply to purchases that excluded a battery. This was not made clear on the website.

It is quite powerful, cutting through branches a few inches thick with no trouble. Very handy for those jobs where it is too much trouble getting the petrol saw out. Quite expensive but assume this will outlast and out perform cheaper versions. Hope I can buy a chain anywhere as the official Bosch one is expensive.

Found cutting logs hard end chain protector stopped cutting logs above 5 inches round Saw is usual Bosch high quality build. Saw needs longer bar and chain with end protector fitted at present size didn’t work

The Bosch cordless chain is very well made, light weight but very powerful. Having a common battery with my other power tool make it very practical. Cuts through thick branches with ease. The chainsaw was delivered very promptly and in perfect condition.

Bought this to prune a large tree in the back garden with the help of my son-in-law. In the end, as neither of us had used a chain saw before but were aware of how dangerous they can be, we chickened out! However, I did use it to cut up a pallet that a new garden ornament had arrived on the following day. It proved easy to use, even with one hand (I was holding the pallet with the other) and quieter than expected. I was using chain saw protection (gloves, hard hat, face visor).

Happy with the purchase, first time user of a chainsaw. The chain guide/guard at the end of the blade limits the maximum cut but it's a great little chainsaw for occasional use. Used it to cut through some overgrown/overhanging hedgerow.

Q : How do I get the chainsaw sharpened please?
A : Hi Martin, if you feel like tackling this yourself there are various chainsaw files and sharpening tools on the market (we sell several ourselves) but if you'd rather get it sharpened professionally you will hopefully be able to find a local business who offers this service - for instance, garden machinery centres can often do it for you.
Q : Is Bosch Universal Chain 18v Cordless chainsaw made in Germany? If not, where is it made and does it come with warranty? Thanks.
A : Hi Armen, you can actually see the label in the second image on our website where you'll notice it says "Made in China" if you look carefully. However bear in mind that Bosch actually have a few different manufacturing locations around the world and I couldn't guarantee this is where they are all made. You can find the warranty for any power tool on our site if you scroll down to the "More Help" section at the bottom of the page - in the case of the UniversalChain it is supplied with a 3 Year Manufacturer Warranty (covers domestic use only, i.e it's not intended for professional use)
Q : Hi can you confirm that its the 4.0ah 18v Li-ion Battery and charger is included in this package for £194.95 and do you have it in stock at present and how long is delivery Thank you
A : Hi Sandra, yes that's correct - the 4.0ah battery and charger kit option is £194.95 at the moment. Once you've chosen this option (or any of the available options) it will list all the included contents at the bottom of the description. It also then comes up with "Order by 3.00PM for same day despatch" which means we have that kit in stock and ready to ship out today. Usually this should arrive the next working day, unless there are any issues with the delivery service in your area.
Q : Can you please confirm what come in the box for the bare tool.
A : Hi George, the bare tool version is Bosch code 06008B8001. This option (and all of the battery kits) are supplied with a standard accessory pack consisting of an 80ml bottle of Chainsaw Oil, the Saw Chain, Chain Cover, Guide Bar and the user manual.
Q : Where can I get the Bosch universal chain 18V cordless chainsaw.
A : Hi Doris, it's a bit difficult for me to answer that question as I don't know where you live :) We get lots of enquiries from people in the US about Bosch Green (Home & Garden) power tools but as far as I know they don't stock them in retail stores in the states. If you live in the UK or Ireland you can order one of these for delivery through our website but unfortunately we can't ship outside of these areas.
Q : How long is it till depsatch. Says upto 30 days on website . I dont want to wait 4 to 5 weeks for delivery. Thanks
A : Hi Carson, there is huge demand for all home and garden products at the moment and we are working hard 7 days a week just to try and get everything out of the door. Subsequently there are severe delays expected on all new orders until things start to calm down so please don't place an order unless you are willing to wait for the goods.
Q : I have 2x 2.0Ah batteries (article number: 2 607 336 921). Are these compatible with this product?
A : Hi there, yes the 2607336921 2ah Power4All batteries can be used with this chainsaw. They are not showing as suggested accessories in the right hand column as we don't currently sell them separately (I think they might have been discontinued in fact)
Q : Can the tip guard be removed to increase the cutting length of the chainsaw as it seems to reduce the cutting area by a third
A : The tip guard is an anti-kickback safety device and should not be removed or modified
Q : I have Power For All 18v 1.5Ah batteries for my cordless drill/driver whereas i see the chainsaw is quoted with 2.5Ah. Would the charger and batteries from my drill set work with the chainsaw?
A : Hi Martin, yes - any Power For All battery will work with this machine but note that chainsaws are high energy tools and will drain a 1.5ah battery a lot quicker than a drill driver would.
Q : Does the 36volt battery work on this chainsaw
A : Hi Jim, the Bosch 18v and 36v batteries are not interchangeable - currently the only batteries that are suitable for this chainsaw are Bosch 18v Power4All batteries (from the Green range of DIY/Garden power tools) as can be seen in the "Suggested Accessories for This Product" section of the product page. We also sell it in quite a few different options of complete kits as well as the bare tool.

This product carries a full 3 year manufacturers warranty covering both faulty materials and faulty workmanship, it does not cover general wear and tear or damage, batteries, blades, bulbs and other consumables. In the unlikely event of a fault the item returned is subject to fair wear & tear and must not have been used beyond the scope of it's design. Please note that cordless products will normally have a shorter warranty of just 1 Year for the battery and or charger supplied.
