Bosch AHS 50-20 LI 18v Cordless Hedge Trimmer 500mm
Battery AH Explained
The best way to describe battery amp hour is that this is effectively the size of your fuel tank, the more amp hours your battery has then the longer the battery will last between charges. More amp hours does not increase the power of a given tool.
Battery Voltage Explained
A tool with a higher voltage than another is a bit like choosing an engine in a car, the higher voltage will generally mean higher power & performance. As with cars though a bigger engine does not always translate to better performance so it is important to compare the specifications of tools at different voltages between different manufacturers.
Bosch PowerForAll
The Bosch PowerForAll Tool range is a range of tools you can buy knowing that batteries are compatible with all tools in the range providing they are of the same voltage. eg 18v fits 18v, 12v (10.8v) fits 12v (10.8v) etc. Please also note that 10.8v is compatible with 12v & vice versa as it is just a name change. Indego Lawnmowers also use the PowerForAll 18v battery but require a cover plate to be removed if changing.
PowerForAll has many advantages not least the fact that once you have a tool with a few batteries then there is no need to buy the more expensive versions with battery & charger, you can just go ahead & buy the much cheaper no battery versions!
So remember PowerForAll signifies complete battery compatibility throughout the range. There is however, one caveat to this, some of the very first older chargers will not charge the very latest batteries & a battery charger upgrade will be required if you have a first generation charger. All batteries fit all tools however.
As of 2021 Bosch has licensed PowerForAll to other manufacturers whereby batteries between these manufacturers will be interchangeable.
Important
You cannot use Bosch Pro (Blue) batteries in either 12v or 18v DIY (Green) products.

Good product and good service
Used once only so far but very pleased with the product. Easy to handle and cuts well. Good service and price from Tooled-Up
I purchased a cordless hedge trimmer last year. It was cheaper but I could have saved £50+ because it lacked power and since I have a very extensive hedge, where I use a corded hedge trimmer as well as the cordless one, it was not fit for purpose. The Bosch product is more powerful and has done an excellent job. It is also light and easy to use. I recommend it.
Does what it says on the box. It's a battery hedge trimmer. I have an evergreen hedge which it cuts just fine. It takes all Bosch 18v batteries, which I already have. It does just what I want, and it weighs less than 3kg as opposed to 10kg for my old petrol model. Very happy with the purchase.
No criticisms of the performance intended, I'm sure it's fine, but I haven't actually used it much yet as nothing is growing in the drought. I do like Bosch's use of what appears to be fairly high grade steel for its garden bladed tools, which makes them lighter and stronger in action. 18v motor is more than adequate for quite vigourous hedges and bushes and I would not advise the 36v version unless you have really dense growth and are physically quite strong!
Nice to be able to buy without battery, amazingly difficult to find, must be lots of sheds stuffed full of batteries that are never used.
Pleased with this hedge trimmer. I already have one which is only two years old but the blades are blunted because I’ve been over ambitious- trying to trim thicker growth than recommended.. I bought this without batteries or charger because it’s cheaper than buying replacement blades and paying the fee to have them fitted.. all in all I’m pleased the new trimmer is excellent and I’m gonna be careful when using it..
This is the second of these Bosch hedge trimmers that I have bought, this to replace the first as the blades of the original were worn beyond sharpening and it was as inexpensive to but a replacement unit (without battery and charger) as it is to buy blades from Bosch... Great machine, absolutely loves to cut light hedges, privet etc, but struggles on anything heavier, can't fault the battery life or the reliability of the machine itself.
Quick delivery and excellent product easy to use.
Very lightweight and easy to use. Does exactly what its supposed to do.
This hedge trimmer came without a battery & charger which didn't matter as we have other Bosch appliances and so have them already. Got it for a great price, much cheaper than local national DIY chains, and even cheaper than the "multi-national tax dodgers"! Always good to be able to purchase from a local company, especially when its great value. Thank you
Very pleased with this item
Bought as a replacement for an old Bosch which served me brilliantly. Battery operated easier, no leads to watch out for. Light weight which is great and also it was offering a free battery, which has arrived Very pleased
What can I say about Bosch a very reliable and well made make that in my opinion cuts no corners and is value for money. Cuts the hedge very easy not sure on the battery life as of yet as not used the tool enough to run it out of power, but a battery hedge trimmer is certainly much safer than a corded one where I cut the cable earlier this year (thankfully no Shock from the mains power) tidying up the hedge hence the reason for my purchase of a cordless one.
Bosch AHS 50-20 LI 18v Cordless Hedge Trimmer 500mm / AHS 50-20 LI (No Batteries, No Charger) I have other Bosch tools and already have batteries and an appropriate charger and so was looking for a bare tool – this had good reviews on the excellent Tooled-Up website and I went for it. The machine is very good – light, quiet and reasonably powerful with very sharp blades. It is extremely easy to use, well balanced and can be swapped left and right handed because of the intelligent placing of switches fitted in the central handle; the battery is also easy to change. A useless, untrue, marketing feature is the sawing function at the tip of the blade which won’t even cut through the stem of a nettle. A serious downside is that there is no battery charge level indicator which means having to remove the battery and plugging it in to either the charger or another machine with led charge indicators; it’s like having a petrol-car with no fuel gauge. Overall a good buy but could have been even better.
Bosch Hedge Trimmer AH 50-20 LI. Very light and works well does a lot of hedge on one charge. Very fast delivery from Tooled-up.com.
Quality at reasonable price
Not bad, a good length to the blades, but underpowered.
Easy to operate, lightweight and does the job. Also uses the Bosch interchangeable battery so it can be used for other Bosch tools. Cordless hedge trimmers are a no brainer.
Excellent and speedy service

Customer Questions & Answers
Q : Will the battery fit my old AHS 48Li charger?
A : The AHS 48 LI is quite an old machine now and while it was part of the Power4All system I am guessing you will have one of the first generation chargers. These older chargers will still work with some of the current generation of batteries but only the smaller ones such as 1.5ah and 2ah. This is because the larger capacities like 4ah didn't exist at the time and these batteries aren't compatible with the first generation chargers. So if you wanted to use the same capacity of battery that you were using with the AHS 48 Li there shouldn't be any problem with using your existing charger but if you wanted to use a battery with a larger capacity you might find you need to upgrade the charger as well.
Q : Will this hedgetrimmer work with a power4all 18v 1.5ah battery
A : Hi Michael, yes it will work with any Power4All 18v battery - just bear in mind that the runtime will be shorter with a 1.5ah version (compared to the stock batteries this machine is usually supplied with)
Q : Hi, will this hedge trimmer work with my 18v 2.0ah battery from my GSB 18v-LI professional drill? Regards John
A : Hi John, I'm afraid the batteries from the Blue (Professional) and Green (Garden/DIY) Bosch ranges are not cross compatible and this hedge trimmer can only be used with the Power4All batteries listed in the "Accessories.." section on the right of the product page
Q : How long does one battery charge last?
A : Hi Sue, I'm afraid there's no real answer to this question - firstly it is dependent on how hard the machine is working, and cutting through thicker branches and woody stems will drain the battery faster than light trimming of leafy material, but secondly there are a number of different batteries to choose from - the higher the ah rating, the longer the runtime you will get. Generally speaking, a 2.5ah battery will more than likely be all you need for most small to medium hedges while a 6ah battery would probably let you finish a large garden on a single charge.
Q : Does 2.5 kg weight include 2.5 ah battery? Thanks Steve
A : Hi Steve, according to Bosch 2.5kg is the weight with a 2.5ah battery installed, and the bare tool weighs 1.9 kg, so based on that it will weigh a bit more than 2.5kg if you are using it with one of the bigger batteries
Q : Will my Bosch lawn mower battery fit this trimmer
A : That depends what lawnmower you have - this is an 18v hedge trimmer so can only be used with 18v Bosch Lithium Ion Power4All (Garden/DIY) batteries. There were no Bosch 18v lawnmowers available until fairly recently, when the CITYMOWER 18 was released. Most cordless Bosch mowers use 36v batteries however, which are not compatible with this machine.
Q : Will this machine cut forsythia, brambles, fuchsia, all within one front hedge? About 30 feet in length and between 4 and 5 feet high. I have never had a cordless hedge trimmer before .
A : I can confirm that as long as you keep the blade clean and well oiled as to avoid the blade getting clogged up with sap and other plant residues then this trimmer should be suitable for branches and twigs up to 25mm in diameter.
